Spine surgery
Dr. Cavasin graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Padova (Italy) in 2001 and later specialised in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. In 2005, on a scholarship from Harvard University (USA), she undertook an internship at the Pain Clinic, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Spinal Cord Injury Unit of the Harvard University Hospital in Boston.
From 2007 to 2008, she worked at the Neurorehabilitation Hospital of the Guttmann Institute in Barcelona, obtaining a fellowship in spinal cord injuries, and since then he has combined his work as an assistant doctor with continuous training.
She graduated in Acupuncture and Auriculotherapy in 2008 at the Istmet Institut in Barcelona; she undertook theoretical and practical training in RX-guided spine interventionism at the Shulthess Klinik Spine Center in Zurich with Professor Grob, and subsequently completed a Master’s degree in Sports Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, where she taught Spinal Rehabilitation in Sport.
In 2012 she won a grant from the Institut Català de la Salut to train in ECHO-guided spine interventionism at the Pain Unit of the University Hospital of Bellvitge (Barcelona). And in 2018 she obtained the title of Expert in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound from the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid.
Dr. Dr. Paola Cavasin has specialised in rehabilitation and minimally invasive non-surgical techniques to treat spinal pathologies, and since 2014, she has been a lecturer at the Spanish School of Musculoskeletal Ultrasound of the Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
She has always focused her interest on the multidisciplinary management of pain of musculoskeletal and neurological origin. In 2020 she obtained the title of University Expert in Pain of Spinal Origin from the Spanish Pain Society.
She currently works in the Spine Unit of the Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona (Barcelona Spine Institute – BSI) as head of the Rehabilitative Medicine and Complementary Therapies team, and is also a specialist in Musculoskeletal and Interventional Ultrasound at the Hospital Sant Rafael.
Areas of expertise
Mechanical and radicular spinal pain: radio-guided or ultrasound-guided facet, foraminal or caudal infiltrations; cervical and lumbar spine rhizolysis, blocks for myofascial pain, pain of coccygeal and sacro-coccygeal origin.
Individualised spinal rehabilitation programmes, post-surgical follow-up and coordination of the rehabilitation team (physiotherapy, osteopathy, psychology and acupuncture).
