Spine surgery

Dr. Nicolás GarcíaDr. Nicolás García Rodríguez graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the National University of Colombia in 2010, and later specialised in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital in Barcelona (2017).

In recent years he has worked at the University Hospital of Bellvitge (Barcelona) in Neurorehabilitation and at the Spinal Cord Injury Unit of the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (Barcelona).

Since 2017 he has been part of the Spine Unit of the Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona (Barcelona Spine Institute – BSI), where he diagnoses, treats and carries out the follow-up of pathologies associated with the spine. He also performs interventional treatments and participates as a researcher in the international multicentre Intreur study on lumbar disc herniation surgery.

Dr. García combines his professional activity at BSI with that of assistant doctor at the ASPACE foundation, where he accompanies a multidisciplinary group that treats cerebral palsy. He is also a pre-doctoral student at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with a project in Neurorehabilitation, in collaboration with the Department of Neurovascular Diseases at the Fundació Institut de Recerca Vall d’Hebron VHIR (Barcelona), since 2019.

Areas of expertise

Comprehensive and multidisciplinary pain treatment (discogenic, facet, radicular, neuropathic, mechanical, myofascial) through dry needling and through X-ray guided neurolysis and rhizolysis (scopia).

Application of botulinum toxin for spasticity in patients with neurological sequelae, such as spinal cord injury or cerebral palsy.

Conservative strategies coordinated with physiotherapists, osteopaths and the team’s psychologist to treat spinal pathologies: lumbar pain, musculoskeletal or centralised pain, somatomorphic pain.

He is an advocate of the philosophy of wellness and good habits, such as physical exercise, ergonomic guidelines and mind-body balance, in the comprehensive treatment of pain.
