Spine surgery

Dr. Matías BurroniHe graduated in Medicine from the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina) in 2013, where he also volunteered in health care with UNICEF. For the next six years he trained as a neurosurgeon, and obtained his specialty at the Hospital Cesar Milstein, Medical Residency at the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina). It was there that he began training in minimally invasive spine surgery.

During these years, he completed a stay at the Hospital del Mar in Barcelona in 2016 and, subsequently, in 2017, a fellowship in Microsurgery at the Institute of Neurological Sciences (ICNE) under Professor Evandro de Oliveira, in São Paulo (Brazil). At the end of his residency, he was appointed Chief Resident and instructor at the Hospital Cesar Milstein, and at the Clínica La Sagrada Familia (Buenos Aires) under Dr Pedro Lylyk.

Dr Burroni has participated in several courses in Neurosurgery such as the “International Course in Vascular Neurosurgery and Vascular Sutures Workshop” in Santiago de Chile (2018) with Proesor Jorge Mura; the “Training in Minimal Access Surgery” and the “Advanced Course in Endoscopic Approaches to the Skull Base” in IRCAD Barretos- Brazil (2017) in charge of Professor Aldo Stamm and Dr, Eduardo Vellutini; and the “Hands-On Course: Microsurgical Approaches to Aneurysms and Skull Base Diseases 2017” at Mayo Clinic in the city of Jacksonville (USA), in charge of Professor Evandro de Oliveira.

He has also recently completed the “Advanced Fellowship on Endoscopic Endonasal Skull base Surgery” at the Università’ degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (Italy) in 2022, under Professor Paolo Cappabianca.

He has published several publications in national and international congresses, as well as in important scientific journals of Neurosurgery. Since 2009 he has participated as Assistant Professor in the Chair of Pathological Anatomy, and from 2014 onwards in the Chair of Neurosurgery, both at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires.

Since 2018, he practised as a neurosurgeon (competitive position) at the Hospital de Niños Pedro de Elizalde in Buenos Aires, where he contributed to the endoscopy of the skull base and the treatment of paediatric Neurosurgical Oncology. He also worked as a staff neurosurgeon at the Clínica La Sagrada Familia in Buenos Aires in emergency cranial vascular surgery, minimally invasive spine surgery and endoscopic cranial surgery.

He is currently working in the Spine Unit of the Hospital Quirónsalud Barcelona (Barcelona Spine Institute – BSI), and also in the Neurosurgery Service of the Hospital Sagrat Cor and the CIMA Clinic in Barcelona.
